Our Mission

Ronald McDonald Charities

The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities NZ (RMHC) is to create, find and support programmes that directly improve the health and well being of children.

Guiding us in our mission are our core values:

  • Focusing on the critical needs of children.
  • The diversity of the programmes we offer and the staff, volunteers and donors who make them possible.
  • Staying true to our heritage of 21 years of responsible stewardship.
  • Operating with accountability and transparency.

Ronald McDonald House Charities develops and supports programmes that help children live happier, healthier lives.  We do this by thoroughly researching and understanding the needs of children and families in New Zealand, as well as learning from the Ronald McDonald House Charities family around the world.

Our programmes are not here to meet short term problems.  All of them take years to develop and will remain in New Zealand offering care and comfort to families for as long as families need us.

Our principal supporter McDonald's is as passionate about helping children as we are, and their support means that all donations we receive can be used exclusively for our programme support and development.

The cornerstone project of the Charity in New Zealand is the three Ronald McDonald Houses; one in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.  Each year these Houses care for thousands of families of children undergoing hospital treatment at Auckland Children's Hospital (Starship), Wellington Hospital or at one of Christchurch's Hospitals.

Ronald McDonald House Charities NZ is incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 - AK/450226 and is a registered charity under the Charities Act 2005 on 24 April 2008; registration number CC23403.

Ronald McDonald House Charities around the World

Since the opening of the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia in 1974, Ronald McDonald House Charities has grown, and now there are 302 Ronald McDonald Houses in 30 countries and regions around the world.

Ronald McDonald House Charities in the USA and its global network of local charities now reach well beyond Ronald McDonald Houses.  Collectively, the RMHC network has awarded more than $300 million in grants to children's programmes worldwide.  All these programmes identify the problems children face and provide solutions for them.
