These House Heroes have reached out to their communities and raised both awareness and funds for our charity.

When Aucklander Jill Hutchison replied to a magazine ad calling for RMHC New Zealand volunteers 20 years ago, she never imagined she would become the organisation’s longest serving helper. Jill is a true House Hero who over the years has helped in so many ways.

RMHC New Zealand holds a special place in the heart of our Family Support Coordinator, Rochelle. Always one to go above and beyond, Rochelle is challenging herself by running for Team RMHC New Zealand in the ASB Auckland Marathon in October 2018. She says, “the last time I ran was probably in P.E. class at high school, but nevertheless training has commenced! I’m hoping to raise as much money as I can, so I’m lacing up my trainers and would love for you to join me!”

Sean has been volunteering at our Wellington House for two years now, but his journey with the House started many years earlier. He was born with a condition which meant he had to spend a significant amount of time in hospital as a child, and his family were able to stay at the House while he received treatment.

Steve had been looking for a way to give back to the community. After a bit of research he found the volunteer programme at Ronald McDonald House and thought it was the perfect match.  Steve could fit us around his work commitments and we could give him the ‘hands on’ experience he wanted. "After being shown around the House and seeing the facilities first hand I knew that it was for me” Steve says.

RMH has become the House and city that Joseph and Sophia now think of as their second home. So much so that Joseph decided to fundraise for the House and he undertook a 5K wheel for the House completing the distance in his wheelchair in just 1 hour and 15 minutes and with his whole community behind him Joseph raised a fantastic $1970 for RMH.

“I wanted to volunteer for a good cause" Victoria Coleman decided to volunteer for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) after reading an advertisement calling for volunteers.  Victoria has spent a lot of time in hospitals and was drawn to our charity as she wanted to help families going through their medical journey.

When Theo Chick was born on March 3 2015, his family were shocked to discover that their new child had a heart abnormality. Baby Theo had to be flown from Whangarei to the National Children’s Hospital in Auckland for intensive care while his family stayed at Ronald McDonald House (RMH).
