Victoria Coleman decided to volunteer for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) New Zealand after reading an advertisement calling for volunteers. Victoria has spent a lot of time in hospitals and was drawn to our charity as she wanted to help families going through their medical journey.
“I spent 10 years of my life working in hospitals, so I understand the stress that families go through when they have a sick child. Joining the volunteers was my chance to help out”
Victoria started volunteering at the House in 2013 and now works at the domain House every Wednesday, helping out with the housekeeping team. She says she has learnt a lot as everyday the housekeeping team are tasked with the huge challenge of cleaning a maze of bedrooms in a three storey building. Volunteering at the House had also given Victoria a deep sense of satisfaction because of the gratitude she receives from both families and staff at RMHC New Zealand.
“The House is very welcoming, it’s a very friendly place to be and the staff are always very cheerful and smiley. I’ve also learned how amazing the wider community is in supporting these families – all the donations towards RMHC New Zealand truly help support the families.” said Victoria.
