McDonald’s New Zealand,

our Founding Mission Partner

As Founding Mission Partner, McDonald’s® New Zealand has been supporting RMHC® New Zealand since it was first established as an independent charity in 1989. McDonald’s franchisees, crew, and suppliers show their support in a variety of ways to help raise much-needed funds.

Every year, RMHC New Zealand offers free accommodation and support to thousands of families with a child in a hospital away from home. This helps to relieve stresses like paying for a place to sleep near the hospital, organising family meals, and needing a friendly ear to listen on tough days.
Globally, the relationship between RMHC and McDonald’s goes back more than 45 years, helping to support families in 64 countries positively impacting over 6.5 million people.

Ways McDonald’s support RMHC New Zealand

McDonald’s New Zealand franchisees, crew and their customers collectively raise over $1.5 million for RMHC New Zealand each year. However, the financial contribution is only one part of this proud partnership, from in-store campaigns to volunteering; there are multiple ways our partnership is cemented.

Happy Meals®

Every time a Happy Meal® is purchased at McDonald’s, a portion of the proceeds is donated to RMHC New Zealand.

Donations via kiosks

McDonald’s customers have the opportunity to add a donation for RMHC New Zealand via the kiosks whilst ordering from the menu.

Collection boxes

Every day, McDonald’s customers help to support families by donating in coin boxes in McDonald’s restaurants.

Newspaper Programme

Thanks to NZME, Stuff and Allied Press, participating McDonald’s restaurants can offer discounted prices on newspapers where a portion of the proceeds is donated to RMHC New Zealand.

RMHC New Zealand Annual Appeal

McDonald’s teams get involved each year in RMHC New Zealand’s Annual Appeal; this usually involves a street collection and in-store activations.

In-restaurant campaigns – Share the Love

Each year McDonald’s runs an in-store fundraising campaign for RMHC New Zealand throughout the country. For a $1 donation you can fill the house with love.

Payroll giving

Over 1000 McDonald’s crew opt in to generously donate weekly to RMHC New Zealand through their payroll. This adds up to make a huge impact.

Fundraising events

RMHC New Zealand has an extensive portfolio of events and many of these are led and supported by Franchisees, committees and crew who often volunteer their time.

Volunteering

Each year McDonald’s Franchisees and crew spend hundreds of generous hours volunteering to make a difference to families who walk through RMHC New Zealand’s doors.

In-kind donations

In-kind gifts are donated to help support our operations.

RMHC New Zealand in-restaurant Marketing

McDonald’s restaurants can request RMHC New Zealand Marketing to display on their walls, drive-thru and playgrounds.

Supplier network

Thank you to McDonald’s suppliers who support RMHC New Zealand.

In addition to the generous support of McDonald’s New Zealand, we are so grateful for the generosity of our other corporate partners, individual donors, families, service groups, schools, trusts and foundations, volunteers and community groups throughout New Zealand. This collective support enables the essential services that we provide to families.

What’s happening

Although it is an end of an era for the iconic Kiwi classic, the Georgie Pie auction raised an incredible $5,160!

On average, in 2019,  House families stayed at our facilities for one week. The funds raised from this auction will help provide four families with weekly family-centred care.

Huge thank you to the auction winner and to McDonald’s for donating the last ever box.

The Kiwiburger for Kiwis: $1 donation from 29th July – 12th August 2020

Have you heard the good news?! We reached the target and $100,000 has been kindly donated to RMHC New Zealand! A HUGE thank you to our Mission Partner McDonald’s for running this great Kiwiburger promotion and heartfelt thanks to everyone who purchased a Kiwiburger during the two-week campaign! The funds raised will help provide 585 much-needed nights of accommodation for families with a child in a New Zealand hospital away from home.

Dunedin Supper Club

The 9th annual Dunedin Supper Club was held on 6th August, and what an amazing night it was! 650 guests started the evening at a cocktail party at Dunedin Town Hall and were then whisked away for fabulous meals at 35 supporting dining destinations. In total, the evening raised $168,000, which this year – due to the stresses of Covid-19 on small businesses – will be shared by RMHC NZ and the incredibly generous dining destinations and businesses involved who have been supporting us through the years. Huge and heartfelt thanks to the Dunedin community for all their support, and to the fantastic McDonald’s Franchisees Justin and Eterei Stonelake and McDonald’s Dunedin Ambassadors who pushed through all the obstacles that 2020 has brought so far to make the evening the resounding success that it was!

K2 cycle challenge

The K2 cycle race is the toughest cycling event in the Southern hemisphere however; families staying at Ronald McDonald House are facing an even bigger challenge with their children in a hospital away from home. Franchisees from Clendon McDonald’s are bringing together a team to train, compete and fundraise for RMHC New Zealand.  Please show your support.
