Choose how you have an impact:

Be a House Hero

Not all heroes wear capes! As a House Hero your role is to assist housekeeping to maintain the high levels of cleanliness that are set at the house. In addition to the tangible effect of a clean and hygienic environment, there is also the intangible effect of helping to create and maintain the safe and homely environment for families. This is a very important role!

Provide Maintenance Support

As a maintenance volunteer you play a vital role in ensuring the Houses are safe and operational. This role is hands on and involves checks to ensure playground is safe, BBQ is clean and safe, and more skilled jobs if your experience allows.

Be a Dinner Host

We are fortunate enough to have groups come in and cook dinners for our families as part of our group volunteering dinner programme. As a dinner host you will support our chef in managing the group to ensure a delicious and nutritious meal is served to our families. You will be working with the group leader and ensuring the dinner service is on time and the clean-up is completed and the kitchen is left tidy afterwards.

You will have a passion for cooking, be an ambassador for RMHC New Zealand, and have a good understanding of people coordination. You will love this role if you enjoy socialising and are comfortable communicating with groups of people. You will also be passionate about food and confident in the kitchen (food safety training provided).

Help our Garden Thrive

As a gardener volunteer you play a vital role in keeping the outside of the house tidy and safe for the families. This role is hands on and includes leaf blowing, water blasting, weeding, watering gardens, cleaning the Gazebo and whatever may be needed outside to keep to area tidy and clean.

Be an Event Superstar

Throughout the year we hold external and internal events where we require the support of our amazing volunteers. This is an awesome opportunity for you to attend and contribute to our incredible events including Supper Club's or the Polo.

You will have the chance to let us know your preferences and interests in your application, however please note, all roles are subject to availability.

Support our Families on their Lunch Break

Covering lunch in the Family Room is vital to ensure our staff can take a breather and get a break. In this role you would be the friendly face that greets our families when they come in for lunch, ensuring that they sign in and out and showing them what is available to them whilst there.

Hear from our incredible volunteers

"As a survivor of childhood cancer, I know how important RMHC is for families facing the unimaginable. I promised myself if I ever lived in a city where they had a Ronald McDonald House that I would volunteer. It's an honour to be here and help in any way I can, and my skills as a mum definitely come in handy!"
- Susan Odone, Christchurch Volunteer
Peter is a dinner host at our Christchurch House. Peter has recently retired and has been "looking for ways to keep active and involved". Peter has a history of volunteering having offered his services to multiple not-for-profits over the years, and with his background as a chef we are very lucky to receive his expertise in the kitchen! "I get to meet a lot of great people at RMHC. The House gives families somewhere to retreat to after what I can only imagine to be an emotionally tough day."
 - Peter Scott, Christchurch Volunteer
The ‘Tuesday Chicks’ have been part of the fabric of the Christchurch House for the past 17 years. Robyn, Margaret and Gay are a formidable trio who are extremely valued by the team and families, and have forged firm friendships with both. They first met clearing out rooms after the devastation of the Christchurch earthquakes and they’ve been doing what they can to make the House a little more comfortable ever since.

Courtney volunteers at our Christchurch House and says, "I had heard a lot of great things over the years about RMHC. With my hospitality background I knew I could lend my skills to the House. The greetings from the staff when you enter the House, walking into the kitchen and meeting new people, seeing wee kids playing together and laughing over dinner - you can't ask for more than that! I can't begin to imagine what being away from your family home would be like when your child is sick. Ronald McDonald House offers a huge relief to families and lets them focus on spending time together, rather than worrying about dinner or where they'll sleep."
