Give Families the Gift of More Time Together –
With a Gift in Your Will

Every day across New Zealand, families face the unimaginable when their child is diagnosed with a critical illness. Some families can’t even afford the cost of local travel to get the treatment their child needs – let alone accommodation.

By leaving RMHC NZ a gift in your will, you can ensure that every family in need has a comfortable bed and the necessary support during a period of emotional upheaval; a ‘home-away-from-home’ when their child is hospitalised. Your legacy will provide comfort, stability, and care to families when they need it most—now and long after you have gone. To find out more about writing your will for free: click here.

Why should I leave RMHC NZ a gift in my will?

By leaving a bequest to RMHC NZ you will be helping ensure its continuing operation, enabling the charity to provide a ‘home-away-from-home’ for future generations of families while their children receive medical care at a hospital away from home.

What will my gift achieve?

Every bequest gift - no matter how big or small - can help RMHC NZ support families while their child receives treatment at a hospital away from home. When you make a bequest to RMHC NZ you will be part of a legacy that supports families so they can face their children’s medical journeys together.

$950 - can accommodate a family for a five-day stay (the average stay inone of our Houses).
$7,500 - can refurbish a family bedroom, replacing tired and well used furniture to give the room a new lease of life.
$15,000 - $20,000 - can help establish a special programme, such as an art or music room, or a dedicated play area.
$80,000 - can cover the cost of a brand new family bedroom, as we strive to accommodate all families who need our assistance.

How do I leave RMHC NZ a gift in my will?

Whether you are making a will for the first time or adding an addition (codicil) to your existing will, the process of making a bequest is easy. Herb Keen - A Lasting Legacy

Herbert (Herb) Keen, one of New Zealand’s oldest citizens and World War II veterans, passed away in 2023 at the Wallingford Rest Home in Temuka, north of Timaru, with his family by his side. He was 106. Although he never had children, his generosity extended far beyond his family, leaving about $200,000 to various charities in his will, including $50,000 to RMHC NZ.
